Jordon from PhysioFitness Castle Hill will be providing some great information on the most common injuries in athletics each week! He will a quick summary on what injuries can develop on the track and field. PATELLAR TENDINOPATHYThe term is fairly self explanatory! Jumper’s knee (otherwise known as patellar tendinopathy) is when there is pain at the front of the knee due to lots of jumping and repetitive load. It can happen in a lot of athletic events, but the highest occurrence is in movements that require a high amount of spring-action e.g. long jump, high jump, triple jump, even hurdles! As the injury is in the tendon, very often the common feature is that it gets progressively worse when you’re loading it or the intensity increases.
The cause for this condition can be a number of different reasons:
It is necessary that if symptoms around the front of the knee start to develop with certain events, to be assessed as soon as you can by a health professional with expertise in movement. There are multiple ways to help treat this condition:
If these areas are not addressed, it is most likely the pain will continue to increase, and the prognosis to recovery will take even longer! Leaving you “out of the race” for a significant amount of time. If you or your child are concerned about symptoms around their knee with certain sports, we have the space and facilities within our gym to return them back to the track sooner rather than later! Our clinic is located in Castle Towers Shopping Centre in the Fitness First. Call 9680 2422 to make a booking with Jordon himself, or make sure to catch him on the field this Saturday!

Jordon from PhysioFitness Castle Hill will be providing some great information on the most common injuries in athletics each week! He will a quick summary on what injuries can develop on the track and field. Hamstring tearThe hamstrings are made up of three muscles that run along the back of your thigh, all of which are extremely important for running and sprinting activities. Very often, an injury to one of these three muscles will result in immediate sharp/shooting pain anywhere along the back of your thigh – usually while in the middle of your sprint!
There are a whole array of reasons as to the possible causes to this injury. Such as:
The reasons can be endless! However here are few tips that you can do to help lower the risk:
If you think your child may have injured their hamstring in the past, or have some niggling discomfort in the area, get them to a physio!! It is extremely important to have it assessed by a professional and to prevent some much bigger from happening down the track. U13-U17 TRACK GALA DAY - Feb 6th/7th | Sydney Academy of Sport and Recreation, North Narrabeen Athletes attempting to qualify for LANSW State Championships are invited to attend so they can record a potentially faster qualifying time on Narrabeen's synthetic track.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT North Rocks Carlingford Little Athletics Centre’s Presentation Day is a time for celebrating the achievements of our club and our athletes, as well as publicly acknowledging the fantastic volunteers that make it all possible. Congratulations to everyone on a successful season at club competition and the interclub championships. By every metric we measure, season 19/20 was more successful than the last: we had 471 members, including 28 multiclass athletes. Together we achieved 7,526 PBs, and broke 54 club records. We sent 188 athletes to Zone Championships, where we finished third in the inaugural interclub shield, and were well represented by our multiclass athletes competing in three events at Zone for the first time. Our Junior Boys relay won Gold and the Senior Boys relay won silver and progressed to Region. We had 123 athletes qualify for Regional Championships, and had the highest number of officials representing the club. We had 34 athletes qualify for State Championships, which were unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19. Congratulations on a great season! It doesn’t happen without a lot of work from a lot of good people. On behalf of the Committee I’d like to thank our Age Managers, Coaches, Starters, Time keepers, Qualified Officials, Canteen Managers, BBQ chef, Team Mangers, Photographer, and Data Manager. In particular, I’d like to thank our Committee for all their work. Although we don’t get to compete, a quick list of some of the wins the Committee has achieved this season:
I’d like to acknowledge the history of NRCLAC and express appreciation for the ongoing support and contributions of our Life Members. Thank you. I’d like to thank NRCLAC club sponsors for their ongoing support:
We value these relationships, thank you for your contribution, and are pleased to have you as members of our community. Presentation Day is a celebration of results. However, it really doesn’t matter whether we win or lose. More importantly, what makes North Rocks Carlingford Little Athletics successful, is the time we get to spend together, the community we build, and the friendships we make on the way. Thank you for coming together as a community. A reminder that registrations for next season open on August 1st. Some groups fill-up in the first couple of days, so don’t miss out. We want to see you all back next season. Fergus Tilt NRCLAC President AWARDS
The following is a list of our award winners for Season 2019/20. We would normally be presenting these awards on stage in front of a crowd, and it’s a shame these club members are missing out on that public recognition due to COVID-19. 5-YEAR SERVICE AWARDS We acknowledge the following athletes for accumulating 5-years of club membership:
10-YEAR SERVICE AWARDS We acknowledge the following athletes for accumulating 10-years of club membership:
OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARDS It is not only the athletes that we recognise for their service at NRCLAC. We recognise the following volunteers for their contribution and service to the club over a number of years and are pleased to present them with an Outstanding Service (Merit) Award:
In 2008, the McKenzie family joined North Rocks Carlingford, a union that continues to this season. Eliza joined as a Tot, and without a parent to take the group, Russell put his hand up to take on the role of Age Manager. It was apparent from the start that we had a very dedicated and enthusiastic Age Manager. As events unfolded, Russell ended up taking the Tots group for three seasons in a row, with youngest child Riley joining the club in 2010. Russell has continued to be Age Manager for Riley’s group, and is now our longest serving Age Manager. Russell has also been a long-serving member of our committee, and continues to be a powerhouse in setting up the oval for club competition. As a club, we are all the better for having Russell at Kingsdene Oval. Thank you, Russell. Lisa also became a regular with the club when Riley commenced in 2010. From the start, Lisa took on a role in the canteen, and was a regular every week, through to season 2017/18. Lisa took on the duty of purchasing all of our supplies, and co-ordinated with our regular delivery services, including drinks, ice-creams, BBQ supplies, bread, and other assorted treats. Lisa took it upon herself to ensure that not only was the canteen fully stocked, but also stayed back at the end of our competition days to clean and tidy all the facilities at the oval. This was a thankless task, and the club is tremendously grateful for the service that Lisa provided. Thank you, Lisa. As a club, we have been very fortunate over the years to have such dedicated people to assist with the various duties undertaken by our volunteers. Both Lisa and Russell have been great friends of North Rocks Carlingford LAC. On behalf of the Committee, and the Club, it is our honour to present both Lisa and Russell with Merit Awards for Outstanding Service to North Rocks Carlingford Little Athletics Centre. VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION We need a lot of help to run our weekly competition. Whether it’s setting-up, packing-up, raking, measuring, or retrieving, we all make a contribution. The Committee would like to publicly acknowledge the continued dedicated contribution from some exceptional volunteers who go above-and-beyond to help us week to week:
Thank you guys. Legends! MULTICLASS GROUP We’d like to acknowledge our Multi-Class athletes, with their Age Managers, Natalie and Paul. The group has been fantastic this year, and it’s been a real joy to watch them compete each week. A highlight of the season were the events at Zone Championships in December.

NRCLAC had a very successful 2020 Region 5 Championships at Narrabeen last weekend, following the postponement of the carnival from the week before due to flooding.
We were well represented by 123 athletes - a record for the club (an increase from 118 last year), competing in 328 events. We had some great results over the two days. Thank you for giving it your best and doing it with a smile. Our medal tally finished at 13 Gold, 11 Silver, and 7 Bronze:
Congratulations to our Junior Boys' Relay team (Oliver, Alexander, Benji, and Sammy) winning the silver. Thank you to Annika for coaching the relays. Thank you to the parents who did their helper duties. Thank you to the NRCLAC Officials who helped run the carnival. It couldn't happen without your contributions:
And most of all, thank you to NRCLAC Team Managers, Janet and Carwyn. Legends ; ) Good luck to the NRCLAC athletes who have qualified to the LANSW State Track and Field Championships in March at SOPAC. There are photos available from a commercial photographer HERE. Full carnival results are HERE. Dear NRCLAC Family & Friends,
Little Athletics NSW has published a statement regarding coronavirus that I'm (mostly) copying and pasting here... ***************************** Little Athletics NSW is committed to the health and wellbeing of all its members, athletes, volunteers and spectators. Over the last few days several NSW and Australian health department related alerts have been issued in relation to the novel coronavirus. The NSW Health Department report that there have been a small number of cases of transmission from person to person occurring outside of mainland China. However, all confirmed cases in NSW were infected with the virus whilst overseas. The NSW Health Department suggest that the best way to prevent infection is to avoid being exposed to the virus. This can be done by following the everyday preventive actions for protecting against respiratory infections:
In addition, the NSW Government has requested that children who have visited China not attend school or childcare services until 14 days have lapsed from their date of departure. Although the risk is very low, the NSW Government has taken this step as an additional precautionary measure. As such, NRCLAC have decided it is reasonable to apply the same, 14 day, incubation period for any of our members returning from China during this time as a precautionary measure. So to be clear, IF YOU HAVE VISITED CHINA RECENTLY, PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND NRCLAC CLUB TRAINING OR COMPETITION WITHIN 14 DAYS OF DEPARTING CHINA. As mentioned previously, while the risk is very low, this is an additional precautionary measure that may assist in reducing the likelihood of infection for you and those at your club. Further information and updates are available via NSW Health website; Factsheet and Frequently Asked Questions Kind regards, Fergus President NRCLAC The 2019 Northern Metropolitan Zone Championships have been run and won.
The final points tally for the weekend, was:

A special thank you to our Multi-Class athletes who were able to compete at Zone in three events this year. MC Long Jump was added to Discus and 100M, and it was great that NRCLAC had the majority of the athletes again. Thank you to the parents and helpers for officiating the MC events. It was well received, and a very proud moment for the club. Hopefully we can do it again next season with more events and even more athletes. A special mention to Alex Shahla for breaking the Zone record in the U17 Boys Shot Put with a throw of 15.59m. Great work Alex! Another highlight was the U17's lap of honour. Hopefully they leave Little Athletics with many great memories and even greater friendships. Thank you to the parents who did their helper duties. I know your children appreciate seeing you make a contribution. Thank you to the NRCLAC Officials who helped run the carnival. It couldn't happen without your contributions:

Thank you to Committee members and families, who helped set up and pack up our area. We had the best home base and looked the most organised. And most of all, thank you to NRCLAC Team Managers, Annika, Carwyn, and Janet. There's so much work that goes into organising nominations, selecting the team, organising parent duties, checking uniforms, marshalling during the day, being the first to arrive and the last to leave.
